Ouroboros machine, 2015. video, 6:30min.

I made this video work on a residency in Iceland in 2015, during a long sunless winter. It focuses on the conveyor belt of a machine in a fish factory in the northern part of the country. I was told that the machine is designed to pack dried fish remains to be sent to Nigeria to use as soup stock.

The video is a continuous loop of fish remains ascending the conveyor belt. Despite being dead these remains are fidgety; they jostle and fall as they are pulled upwards. Could they be anxious about something?
